Lady is getting a bit of a break from her daily footwork. This hiatus will allow her pads to harden and give her time away from being asked to do anything. We are taking advantage of this time to provide Lady with a chance to wander around Yard 4 for a few days.
Her gait and the fluidity of her movement continue to be improved, so when we opened up, she followed very quickly into Yard 4. Lady followed the 4wheeler down the path we call “Middle Road.” She stopped every 2-3 steps, took a moment, to smell and investigate her surroundings with her trunk.
Scott planned to lead her towards the pond to explore on her own. Around 1/3 of the way to the pond, Lady started wandering off the middle path, clearly interested in venturing into the trees on either side. Seeing this, Scott headed out of the habitat, leaving a trail of hay and fruit chunks behind.
When we checked in on her later that day, she was past the pond and heading towards the water trough, looking quite content. The extra exercise that comes with exploring Yard 4 will be good for her feet, and likely good for her soul as well. Sometimes, whether we realize it or not, we all could use a break. ❤️

May 3, 2020 at 4:09 pmUnfortunately this is a life-long problem for Lady. Her right front foot still causes her obvious discomfort. We have a lot of work to do on her feet. Her nails have a long way to go, but her pads have to heal a little bit first – and we have months of trimming before those nails and pads can even come close to looking normal, and that doesn’t include actually being normal. We wish Lady’s feet were that easy to fix, but sadly not even close.

June 11, 2020 at 11:19 amShe spent a life time on a stone surface. That destroys their feet.

May 4, 2020 at 1:45 pmWonderful to know Lady is able to enjoy total freedom to roam and forage as she pleases from time to time away from treatments, etc. I agree, we all need a break at times. It is good for the Lady’s body and mind.
