Lady’s Comforting Massages

Because of Lady’s prior life on circus, time on inappropriate substrates, and ongoing foot ailments, she has always been stiff in her ankle and shoulder, primarily on her left side. In fact, when she arrived at sanctuary, her ankle was so swollen that there was no definition to it: her foot, ankle, and leg were the same width. Currently, she is given pain medication and anti-inflammatories as part of her care routine to keep her comfortable. 

Still, sometimes she is stiffer than others. There were a couple of days in a row lately where her left leg seemed especially rigid. In addition to her oral medications, we decided to increase the topical treatments we already use on her leg for sore joints. She always seems to appreciate the massages that she receives when those liniments are applied during her foot treatment. She’ll sometimes close her eyes and lean into things a bit, seeming to show that it feels good. 

We’ve decided to increase those topical treatments because we want to do everything we can to make sure her wandering isn’t affected, because we know she likes to do her own thing. She seems more fluid in her movements, so it does appear to be helping – and her enjoyment of the application makes it all the better.

    Do you use a cold laser on the elephants?

      Yes. We use laser therapy on the elephants when they need it.

    Awww that’s so wonderful to hear and you know she really enjoys those treatments when she leans into them she’s so relaxed her pain level is greatly reduced. So happy she’s doing so good all things considered with her past. We all love these girls soo much and want nothing but the best and by the sound of it they are receiving the royal treatment as they should! Bet it really makes you really pleased to know what you are doing is working! You are amazing Angels on earth sending big hugs to all 🤗 💞
