Cute little Lady was having a brave day today. Ramba came back near the barn by herself, and Lady was in the next yard. Lady was clearly watching Ramba, but not with concern, with interest. Little by little, she wandered over in Ramba’s direction, taking a step and watching, taking another step and pausing. Lady got to within a step of Ramba (who was on the other side of a closed gate), and then Ramba took a step towards Lady. With that, Lady walked about 5 steps in the other direction but didn’t race off, instead she stopped and calmly looked around.
We brought Ramba in for treatment, during which Lady stayed pretty close. Once Ramba was done, she went out into yard 3, and she and Lady spent some time along the same fence line, a bit away from each other, but both calmly grazing. A little later, Rana showed up as well, and all three stayed fairly close, doing their own elephant thing.
The other day we had noticed that while Lady was watching the other girls, she no longer looked slightly concerned, but instead had a smile on her face. It’s these ‘little’ moments that make our hearts swell with pride at how far Lady has come in just a few weeks. In order to heal and grow, Lady needs to be willing to put in the work, and so far, it seems she is. ❤️
