Lady Splashes, Dusts, and Scratches in the Rain

If anyone questions whether Lady loves the rain as much as the other elephants do, the answer is an unequivocal yes. She celebrates a downpour with a great deal of spirit and, as we all know, she loves to play in the water.

In this short (but silent) video from the observation camera, Lady is splashing around in a puddle and getting plenty wet. She also finds a pile of dirt behind one of the trees and gives herself a dust bath. Then, she decides to take up a favorite pastime of all the girls and get in a good scratch from a nearby tree.

For those of you who love the rain as much as the girls do, we hope you can appreciate this playful few moments and live vicariously through Lady.

Freedom, dust, water, and an itchy tree, what more can this Lady wish for.

I remember Lady’s little umbrella stand at the zoo and her small yard, and the fear and worry about her feet. It is so good to see her just doing whatever the hell she wants right now, it is a thing of beauty.
