Lady Seeks New Scenery

Toward the end of the dry season, Lady tends to stay a little bit closer to the barn than she might during the rainy season. We believe it’s because there’s less of the green grass she prefers in the back of Yard 5, where she likes to spend her time. 

A few days ago, she decided that she wanted to explore the male Asian yard again. She tends to let us know this by walking to the area where the gate opens into the male yard, and standing there, looking directly at the corridor and making sure we notice. Of course, we were happy to give her that opportunity to wander and snack. 

The male yard has lovely palms and greener grass than Yard 5 and Lady really loves the pond in that yard. Because of the way it was constructed, there’s a small step of dirt that encircles the water, which seems to be softer than the rest of the surrounding ground – so she likes to hang out there. There’s also an area where fresh water is pumped into the pond. Lady enjoys standing near here, drinking the cool water and splashing. It’s quite shady there as well thanks to an old beautiful tree. She’ll stay in the male yard until she indicates she’s ready to come out. She appears to be making the most of her time there.

    Well good for her Lady is doing exactly what SHE wants to do and nobody else and that makes her extremely happy just look at that smile on her face even with a mouthful I definitely see a smile on her cute adorable face 😘 ♥️

    Will Lady have a similar set up when thr male elephants eventually come to sanctuary?

      She will still have yard 5, which is a large space. If she wants, she can also spend time in the yards near the barn.

    She’s just cute as a button. Bless her so glad she and the others have freedom to go wherever and do whatever they want.
