Lady spends a bit of time exploring in Yard 5 and, while in her favorite spots, she allows herself to get a bit lost in the vast spaces. When she spends time in Yard 4, which is less often, she seems a bit more attentive, as though other elephants might be around. She has shared space with Rana and Mara in Yard 4, so perhaps that is why. One afternoon, she had access to Yard 4, where Bambi, Mara, and Rana had been the day before. You can see her stop, look around, and smell, as though she is curious to see if the other elephants are nearby. With the other girls there just the day before, the smells would be strong and significant. Lady did have the entire yard to herself, so she was able to roam about until she was ready to come back to the barn.

October 6, 2021 at 2:11 pmAwwww. Lady is torn. Mixed emotions about socializing. I can most definitely relate. 😀🤔💖
Love her so…

October 6, 2021 at 2:15 pmDo the girls make those paths or are they from your vehicles? Just curious.
Sara says
October 6, 2021 at 2:29 pmThe paths were created as part of the sanctuary design. We had to create a pathway to drive from one yard to another and to get within certain parts of each yard for maintenance, care, and feeding. They do get more wear over time.

October 6, 2021 at 2:16 pmAww! My girl! Is her left leg giving her more trouble currently? It seems to be swollen (ie , from video, knee and ankle seem same diameter?).
I know she has severe foot issues but it seems her gait is emulating Rana’s?
Sara says
October 6, 2021 at 2:27 pmHer feet have been a bit off and on lately. This video was taken a couple of weeks ago, when she wasn’t feeling as well.

October 6, 2021 at 3:41 pmIs Lady able to lie down at all to sleep or rest? Has she ever ventured into any of the ponds to lay down? I don’t remember seeing any videos of her other than standing or walking. Just hoping she is able to find some ways to give her poor tootsies a rest. She is so unbelievably strong and brave to walk and explore with the pain she no doubt experiences. Her feet in this video do look so much better visually since she has been getting treatments. Love our little warrior!!!

October 6, 2021 at 4:57 pmLady does lie down at night to sleep and she enjoys both the mud wallows and the pond. She is doing her best to live a great life these days.

October 6, 2021 at 4:08 pmSo glad she explores and is so happy there in paradise. Maybe one day she’ll get close to Rana as she is sensitive to the girls’ needs. Ranabug is so sweet and Lady is as cute as a button!🥰
Sara says
October 6, 2021 at 4:39 pmShe has shared space with Rana in the past. But at the moment she is interacting with the other girls much more than she has before, even if they aren’t in the same yards.

October 6, 2021 at 4:29 pmBless those sore feet. Lovely seeing the soft, squishy fauna she’s walking that cushions her walks.

October 6, 2021 at 5:58 pmIt looks like her feet hurt the way she is walking. I’m happy she can still enjoy roaming the vast countryside at sanctuary. Thank you for the beautiful video.
Sara says
October 6, 2021 at 6:20 pmHer feet will always cause her discomfort. She goes through cycles where they feel a bit better and then worse again.

October 8, 2021 at 3:26 amThere is a special spot for Lady in my heart. She is so so sweet. I always await with great anticipation for videos with her. Nobody knows the new dynamics which will be forged when Pocha and Guille arrive, but it would be so sweet if she became a friend with both or one of them..:-))) Time will tell….But I am very happy that she enjoys the sanctuary soooo much, and just on her own, pottering around..:-)). Maybe she truly does not need anything anymore…just living in peace and quiet, close to beautiful nature….xoxoxox

October 8, 2021 at 7:35 pmThank you for this video and news of Lady. I was wondering, did you use your new equipment to further assess her feet? Or maybe you don’t have it yet?

October 8, 2021 at 7:47 pmwe did initial films to try to figure out how to set things up as far as a plate holder and positioning so we can make sure radiographs are of diagnostic comparability- we did a post. past then, we have not done a follow-up. but with those films we were already able to see she is missing digits, which confirms our suspicion of osteomyelitis.
