This week, Lady and Rana had a little sleepover in the male Asian yard. Though this is the first time they’ve shared this particular space in the evening, the two of them have stayed overnight in other yards together (as has Lady with Rana and Mara). Rana had spent the day there and, when evening was getting near, we checked on them to see if Rana wanted to leave and go meet time with the other Powerpuff Girls. But she was all the way at the back of the yard and nowhere near the gate where she’d go if she wanted to leave.
The other girls did start to trumpet later in the evening, so we went to see if their calls had caused Rana to move near the exit gate, indicating that she wanted out. But both she and Lady were still in the back of the yard, about 20 meters from each other; both were very relaxed and mellow, so we left them where they were. We didn’t hear anything from either of them throughout the night. The next morning, both seemed in a really good place and were still relaxed. No one seemed overtired, which was our main concern for Lady. It’s important that she feels comfortable enough to lie down at night so she can take pressure off her feet.
Both Lady and Rana ended up spending a second evening together in the male yard the following night. Rana didn’t seem to want to leave and, since it’s important to give everyone the choice to make decisions, we weren’t going to force anything – as long as Lady seemed okay, which she did. The next morning both girls seemed a little tired, but still content. Rana, by then, had come back near the gate by the corridor out of the yard, her way of letting us know she was ready to rejoin her friends, which she did in good time.

April 20, 2023 at 9:41 pmThat really is very nice to hear. I am glad that Lady was comfortable enough with Rana to spend two nights, that is a very big deal, and 20 meters is pretty darn close for her to be around someone else. Very proud of Lady for pushing her boundaries and very proud of Rana for being there for Lady and understanding Lady’s needs, but that is definitely one of Rana’s strengths!!!

April 23, 2023 at 8:52 pmThey are adorable as always. Glad they get to explore, but it begs the question: are any males coming to ESB?
