You may have learned by now that, after a successful treatment or training session, the elephants receive a “big” reward – which they know comes once everything is finished and they were cooperative. Watermelons are a favorite among all of the girls, some of whom savor them and others take little time finishing theirs off.
In this video, Lady has just finished her foot treatment along the training wall. She was happy to receive her much-beloved watermelon chunks. She gets her first big piece in her mouth – which is left open waiting for its arrival, and then the other pieces are rolled into the habitat so as to not keep her at the fence. You can see that she seems to savor each piece before moving on to the next.

January 20, 2023 at 4:38 amI just adore the way that Lady demonstrates her approval by swinging her trunk back and forth in an excited manner whenever she’s about to receive a tasty treat.

January 21, 2023 at 8:08 amI’ve noticed that too Mark – the swinging trunk as she’s getting treats. They each have such distinct personalities that come through in many ways.
