Rana
Sweet and soft Rana Bug, photo courtesy of Karissa. Karissa is back to help out with the ladies and love on Alma (she has a soft spot for her.)
This means all of the ladies get some extra love and attention and will work on different aspects of their training. With Rana, we will go back to focusing on footwork and blood draw. We had already made some good progress with foot presentation and Rana staying short periods for filing, but then she started to have eye issues and focus shifted to getting her to allow us to work on that instead.
Having an extra set of competent hands is awesome, having someone here with her skill level who we adore and trust with our elephants is priceless. As I’m sure most people who follow us can imagine, we’re a little protective of the ladies. They are strong, but they’ve been through so much in their lives that we try to create a safe space where they never have to feel anything similar to the insecurities and fear they felt in the past. In Scott’s 30 years working with elephants, he has said he never felt as comfortable opening the girls up to someone that has that level of experience, as he does with Karissa. Our lovely ladies are in great hands. Don’t worry, we’re still here too.
So over the next couple of months, you may see more training videos, foot updates on Rana if we discover anything new, a different perspective on photos and updates, or a new face running around with our elephants. It’s all good, it’s just Karissa. Maybe we’ll even manage to get a Rana squeak video with more of us around to try.
