The day has finally arrived! It’s now time for Kenya to get on the road that will lead her to sanctuary. It’s been a long path for Kenya, but soon she will be the second African elephant–after Pupy–to join us at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil.
Scott and team arrived in Mendoza and spent a few days monitoring Kenya’s progress. Like Pupy, Kenya seemed uncertain about having the back gate of her crate closed behind her. Kenya is a sensitive elephant and a large part of our work there has been gaining her trust, so that she can be confident during her transport. It took some time, some critical problem solving, and lots of dedication from caregivers, but Kenya did eventually seem to feel secure in her crate.
There is a camera inside the crate, which will allow us to check on her throughout the trip. The transport team will stop frequently to make sure that Kenya has plenty of food and water and is otherwise comfortable. Elephants are used to standing up for long periods of time (in fact, some captive elephants don’t lie down for weeks to years on end), so she should be nice and safe on the trip.
Pupy’s team from Ecoparque Mendoza will accompany Kenya’s caravan to sanctuary, where they can witness her taking her first steps into her new life. Kenya is used to the sterility of the ecoparque, so being surrounded by natural elements will allow her to begin the healing process–mentally and physically.
We’ll be sharing regular updates from the road. Keep an eye on our Facebook and YouTube pages for live videos from Scott and the relocation team (we’ll also post them to the blog). Kenya’s dedicated travel page will be updated with progress reports, so you can stay close to her journey. You can also sign up for text message alerts straight from the road. We’re incredibly honored to walk this path with Kenya–and we hope you’ll follow along as she heads home to sanctuary.
Our team is thrilled to begin this process with Kenya, and we look forward to seeing her flourish in her new environment. Thank you for joining us on this remarkable journey. She’s on her way to a new chapter, and we’re so glad you’re part of it.
You can be a part of Kenya’s incredible journey in many ways. Whether it’s wearing A Promise for Kenya shirt, sharing her story, following her progress, or sending her a welcome gift, your support means the world.

July 5, 2025 at 1:23 pmI love Kenya fashion style with the grass hat on her head. She’s going to love The Sanctuary Brazil so much. It will be like nothing she’s while being in captivity.
Good luck sweet girl on your arriving at your new home 💖🐘
