Identifying the Elephants: Learning About Mara

This week, as part of our series on how to identify each elephant, we’re talking about Mara – the squeaky girl of the sanctuary herd.

She can be demandingly chatty at times, which she vocalizes with a distinctive “errr” sound. Mara is drawn to Rana and Bambi, who adore her as well. Unlike Maia and Guillermina, she has a smooth and almost hairless head. You may notice in videos that Mara has a noticeably bent wrist, which she has had since childhood. We keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t give her any trouble. Feel free to take this information (and the post we published last year) to learn more about this very special lady.

Look back at past weeks to see entries for Bambi, Lady, Guille, and Maia.

She doesn’t demand attention though I love her squeaks, and she’s a quiet beauty content with her life within the powerpuff girl squad!

She can be very demanding when she wants to be. But in the best possible way.
