It’s still sweltering here, and none of the elephants seem very motivated to do much of anything during the day, aside from bathing and napping. They are generally much more active at night when things cool off significantly.
Yesterday morning, after a day and a half with Rana and Mara, Maia was back in Yard 5, near the common fence shared with Yard 1. Bambi spent much of the day in Yard 1. The two spent a lot of time close, but we didn’t see touching. They seem outwardly interested in each other.
Lady is still observing Bambi through the fence. Those two don’t seem as outwardly interested in each other as Bambi and Maia are. Nevertheless, we know Lady is intrigued by the new arrival because we will see her walk away and then return to check out Bambi. She is staying at a “Lady Distance,” and periodically napping in the shade between bouts of observing Bambi. Bambi seems content watching Lady back from a distance.
Mara and Rana still seem very settled at the pond in Yard 4. At this point, we wonder if they will still stay there until the rains come. If they do, Bambi may have a long wait to meet those two, as there is still no rain in our forecast.

It doesn’t seem fair that we can’t share it! I wish I could pack it up and post it to you so that ellies and humans and all the sanctuary wildlife can enjoy it!! LOL!
