Happy Valentine’s Day from Mendoza

Happy Valentine’s Day from Mendoza!!

We don’t usually do things like this in Brazil because, while it’s fun for humans, it just isn’t necessary for the elephants. We encourage our sanctuary residents to be independent of humans and to live their lives as free and wild as possible. In their sterile zoo enclosures, these elephants need all the environmental enrichment they can get to break up the monotony of their days. Unlike the elephants already at the sanctuary, they can’t just go to a new area to graze, or nap in a pond, or visit a friend, or wallow in a mud wallow.

That said, all the elephants at the Ecoparque Mendoza had just as much fun as the humans did at their little Valentine’s Day Party!

The before and after on these Ecoparque Mendoza Ellies is going to be dramatic. They just have no idea how dramatically their lives are going to change. The wait is tough for those of us who do know, but if they can hang on, then I can hang on, I suppose. Are you all ready there at ESB for two more! I wish I was there to help in some way!

Being free in a sanctuary, is certainly worth celebrating, whether it be Valentines’s Day or Christmas! Any excuse for a joyful party, is a great opportunity for group fun! I believe you do not need a Holiday to mark the calendar. Just a good excuse to be with friends.

Something about this video broke my heart…Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled they got even a moment of joy and well, just any difference from their mind-numbing endless reality.
I simply cannot fathom how they have survived in that hole for all these years and it makes my heart absolutely sing to think of them arriving at Sanctuary!
