Today marks Rana’s 4th re-birthday here at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. Scott took a moment this morning to mark the occasion with her, as she, Mara, and Bambi were returning from what appeared to be a fantastic sunrise mud bath.
Rana has come a long way from her days at the hotel zoo, where she spent all of her time alone. Now she’s almost constantly surrounded by friends and has become a dependable member of the herd, often focusing her energy on the needs of those around her. She’s universally beloved by her elephant sisters and her human caregivers alike. Rana is an absolute joy to be with each day. She has enriched all of our lives in indescribable ways. Happy anniversary, Rana. May there be many more.
P.S.: For those of you who haven’t noticed before, Rana walks with her left leg straight because she has a fused elbow from an injury when she was a calf. It doesn’t seem to bother her, but we do monitor it to make sure.
