Guillermina’s Playful Day

Guillermina covered in hayGuillermina started her morning with very high energy. She was moving all over the habitat, checking in with everyone, but not staying still in any one place. Some palm leaves had been cut and caregiver Tina brought some very long stalks and laid them against the fence. Guille started squeaking at the palms, seeming a bit nervous about them. She pulled down one branch, but when she got to the second one, she ran away from the palms at full speed, trumpeting. At some point, she must have returned to eat the remaining palms because when the caregivers checked on Guille later they were gone, and no other elephant was near.

In the afternoon, a little before dinner time, Guillermina was at the gate opening between Yards 4 and 5. At first, the caregivers thought she was with another elephant, because she was squeaking and making a good deal of noise. But it turned out that she was by herself. She was playing with the gate, picking up branches and throwing them around, running back and forth. Her squeaks turned to loud trumpets and the excitement continued for several minutes. We’re not sure what caused the celebration, but Guille was clearly having an energetic party of one.

By dinner time, Guillermina was calmer, but still had lots of energy. So this was one of those days when she got her dinner a little ways away from the other girls, so they could eat without too many distractions. There were no more trumpets or over-the-top silliness from Guille for the rest of the day, but we’re thrilled that she had a chance to embrace the light-hearted side of her personality for a little while.

Those are the incoming energies which are affecting everyone and as Guille is so young she is able to feel them more intensely than the rest of my dearest girls. Cheers to everyone!

Delighted also that she seems to have challenged her fear of the long stalked palms! Such a stimulating day for our girl!
