From their first day at sanctuary, we found that Pocha and Guillermina absolutely love to dust. After living in a sterile environment for decades, it makes sense that having contact with the earth would bring joy and plenty of tactile fun. The two of them throw dust on themselves throughout the day, whenever they have the opportunity. Undoubtedly, it feels good on their skin and is likely a simple way to just have a good time.
In this video, you can see Guillermina and Pocha walking – and they can’t help but stop a couple of times to throw dirt on themselves at one of their favorite dusting holes. It’s an almost irresistible urge. Watching them enjoy such simple pleasures is a delight and a wonderful example of the innocent beauty that sanctuary can bring.

July 10, 2022 at 3:03 pmSo very beautiful to watch these girls walking along able to just be elephants which leads me to my question I’ve often wondered how do elephants stop dust and other things from being inhaled directly into their lungs? I must’ve missed that Elefact Friday episode talking about how amazing their trunks truly are thanks guys!
