Guillermina and Friends By the Pond

For those wondering how Guillermina’s friendships are evolving lately, you can see in this video that she seems to have found significant common ground with Bambi and Maia. She was already in tune with their playful sides, but she’s really evolved when it comes to quieter moments as well.

Looking back on her early days here, it’s gratifying to see how this former “elephant in a china shop,” who had little experience with elephants other than her mother, has grown into a silly-yet-responsible young elephant. Guille is still coming into her own – and she’s kept her charming, goofy side – but she seems to be taking into account the feelings of her friends these days. She understands how to read the room, so to speak, although it doesn’t always mean she edits her response.

This video opens with Bambi and Guillermina quietly standing next to each other by the pond. Bambi is splashing and Guille is enjoying a drink. Maia stops by with a nose full of hay, as Guille seems to decide that it’s time to explore on her own. Maia joins Bambi and they spray themselves with water. (You can tell which one is Maia because she’s the rounder of the two.) They each have the freedom to choose to wander or to relax. Guille happened to choose both and seemed delighted.

Thanks for the helpful tip on how to tell Maia and Bambi apart from the back. I often just give up trying to tell everyone apart.
