You may remember that, after Guillermina and Pocha’s arrival, when they first started venturing into the habitat, they weren’t used to looking up and ahead, since they’d only had concrete walls surrounding them for decades (in Guille’s case, her whole life). The horizon, the dirt, the trees–they were curious about them all and sometimes tentative in their approach. Once Pocha started to get more comfortable, she was known for charging right over bushes and small trees, and Guille would follow her most of the time. The two would have a rollicking time tearing down the hills and into the creek, breaking branches and generally being charmingly ungraceful.
The youthful Guille still has some of that curious enthusiasm and wild abandon in her. She went far into the yard (while Bambi and Maia were snacking a few yards away) to find some browse, which she munched on for a few minutes before deciding to go deeper in, heading right over knee-height brush and into the trees. There are times, like when she navigates the woods this way or strips the bark off trees with her tushes, that she shows some African elephant-like traits. These days, she’s certainly at home among all things green and seeks out her favorite bites whenever she wants.
