This year’s dry season has given us several moments of reprieve, with unexpected rains showing up a few times. It rained this weekend, which means mud and water – and muddy, happy girls. We caught a silly moment with Guillermina (who starts on the right) and Pocha (left) who traded spots along the fence line in order to get some bum scratches from Scott.
Both ladies were initially making their typical loud vocalizations until the camera appeared. Then they got mysteriously quiet, with the exception of a few little squeaks from Guille. This is a technique used by the other girls (going quiet when cameras are around), so we wonder what else Pocha and Guille are being taught by the other sanctuary residents these days…

August 9, 2022 at 2:05 pmSo interesting about their getting quiet when the cameras are on … any sense of why that is? Thanks!

August 9, 2022 at 2:09 pmIt’s a mystery why they do some of the things they do. Perhaps sometimes they’re not in the mood to be filmed if they want you to concentrate and see them fully.

August 9, 2022 at 2:46 pmYes, very interesting. Who knew elephants were such sponges when it comes to learning from other elephants! Love the video anyhow, without vocalizations. Then again, I love every video you do, so it’s not too surprising. 😃

August 9, 2022 at 9:01 pmVERY INTERESTING, I WONDER WHO TOLD POCHA AND GUILLE TO STAY QUIET WHEN THERE R CAMERAS AROUND?? MUST BE MAIA, IS MY GUESS. MAIA OFTEN WALKS AWAY, I DO NOTICE MANY IF THE LADIES SEEM TO AVOID CAMERA. WONDER WHY, IT DOESNT HURT THEM, AND POCHA AND GUILLE USED TO NOT WORRY WHEN THEY WERE IN THE CAVE. THEY WANTED ATTENTION ALOT, POOR GALS. SO IS THIS ABOUT TREATS, NO FRUITLOOPS NO PICTURES???😍😃

August 9, 2022 at 11:35 pmEverything about them is amazing and wonderful! I have to admit to jealousy of Scott–his actual hand scratching their bums! I know that many animals don’t seem to like the camera–like my dog! I’m not sure humans are smart enough to understand how smart animals are. I love them so much. I love you all so much! And PS–you humans are about as smart as humans get about animal intelligence!
