During a recent morning, Scott was watching Guillermina and Bambi exploring together, side by side. It was an intriguing moment because, while the two do spend time with one another, this seemed to be a different kind of close togetherness, a small transformation and possible evolution of their friendship.
He wondered aloud to caregiver Panto as to what might be going on and questioned if there might be a change occurring before their eyes. Panto seemed slightly amused at the idea and suggested that they might be seeing a “friendship of mangoes.”
Unbeknownst to Scott, while Panto was cleaning the yard, he also tossed some mangoes into the habitat for the elephants to discover at some point in the day – which is a common thing to do. Apparently, Guille (who we were under the impression didn’t like mangoes) and Bambi were trying to find the snacks before the other girls. It’s possible that Bambi was trying to make sure she was able to eat as many as possible while Guille may have just been playing a game of “find the mango.” While their joint searching may not have been the kind of evolution that Scott was pondering, it certainly was a lighthearted moment to see the two working together for the benefit of both elephants.
