Despite being the wet season in Brazil, it’s been a few weeks since we’ve had a good rain. Thankfully, the uncharacteristic dry spell broke yesterday when we had not one, but two glorious rainstorms. Followers frequently worry about what the elephants “do” when it rains if they’re away from the barn – but the truth is that they love rainstorms.
After it rains, everyone always seems light and happy (even the humans). Yesterday was no different. When Scott went out to feed dinner last night, everyone was in a happy place and seemed super relaxed– especially Rana.
Rana was super cute last night, with a big smile, and her ears were flapping away in happiness. She was so energetic – the most we’ve seen her in a while, speed walking after Scott to get her dinner. Rana seemed so bright and full of joy – she’s been bright and smiley some lately, but last night it had that spark, that exuberance that we haven’t seen much of in her lately. She was by herself, so Scott sat with her while she ate. The morning found her in the field where Ramba is buried, calmly grazing and seeming like her usual self.

January 17, 2020 at 4:38 pmAnd Lady didn’t have to rely on a water hose for her fun playing with water. I am glad Rana seemed in her happy place. Love news from ESB! Did the rain slow down fence building for Kenya?

January 17, 2020 at 7:24 pmNo, because they are cutting the poles and rain doesn’t interfere with that. Rain can interfere with post hole digging and concrete pouring, but not with pole cutting.

January 18, 2020 at 4:18 pmThis makes my heart sing. Rana returns to Ramba’s grave but finds moments to be her happy self. The rain brings new life and seems to have brought Rana great joy, too. Truly wonderful news! x
