Guillermina, Bambi, and Maia had breakfast in the smaller yards, after which Maia and Guille got sleepy, which is not unusual. Guille finished her meal and headed in the direction of the barn and Maia was napping–but Bambi walked over and the two elephants opted for a trip to the pond in Yard 4. Maia got into the water and started floating right away. Bambi stuck to the bank for a while, splashing her belly and back until she was so wet that it looked like she’d been swimming all morning, even though she hadn’t. 

After some time, Bambi decided to ease into the water and sort of wedged herself between Maia and the shoreline. At that point, Maia started to roll over but stopped, her feet coming up out of the water and kicking a little; eventually she sat up but kept most of her body submerged. Perhaps she was determined to get a nap in, no matter the setting. 

As Maia floated, Bambi squished her bottom into the mud bank, scooting back and forth before settling into a soft spot. Over the course of the morning, she moved around a bit, but Maia stayed quiet and almost motionless, perhaps too drowsy to do anything but laze about. As Bambi, who was standing directly beside Maia at the time, started smooshing her face into the muddy ground, Maia remained still and didn’t get silly with her friend. Sometimes a nap is an essential part of the day, and Maia knows how to get some zzzs no matter where she is.
