At the end of the day, while Guillermina spent some time in a different area of Yard 4, Bambi, Maia, Mara, and Rana all hung out together as a foursome by the edge of the pond. It had been raining for a couple of hours and there was a nice bit of mud for all to splash in.
The four were making quite a racket until we turned the camera on (of course). After hanging out for a while, they all gradually began to make their way toward the fence, splitting in multiple directions.
You can see that Bambi finds a tree and decides to take a break to scratch, which is always a special post-mudbath treat. All four elephants walked to the fence for dinner. It was charming to see all of them being calm and light together, playing in the rain and vocalizing (even if we didn’t catch that part on video).

December 12, 2022 at 2:05 pmWonderful video … What’s your overall sense of why they stop the party once the cameras are turned on?

December 12, 2022 at 4:07 pmMore than likely it’s just a distraction to them. If they’re doing their own thing and a 4-wheeler drives up, they are going to be interested in why it’s around.

December 12, 2022 at 2:30 pmThey have that dang camera on us again, don’t give them anything exciting..I’ll stop here and scratch, they don’t care about watching that.” 😉☺️
It looks like Guille (I call her that because I don’t know how to pronounce her name) is just one of the heard and has their support. So great to see. Have you guys thought about doing a small documentary on her and Pocha? I think you could sell it to Netflix, or some streaming channel, Animal Channel? That would help you raise money and I know you’d get lots if people watching it. Just an idea. Thank you for all you do. Taking care of these amazing elephants, the time and love you all put into saving them and continuing giving them a basically free life. It’s just so wonderful and if I were younger and healthy enough I would be there helping. Since I can’t I have adopted some of them. ❤️🙏🏻

December 12, 2022 at 2:59 pmWe’ve had several people approach us over the years about doing documentaries. It would have to be something that would be done in collaboration with a producer or production team, as that’s definitely outside of the budget of the sanctuary, if it’s to be done well. But you never know what will happen! Thank you for your adoption of the elephants. That is a great help to the organization. Also, here’s how you pronounce Guille’s name:

December 13, 2022 at 5:48 amMagical, looking as if they had always been a “natural” herd. Extraordinary characters who in their later years met each other one by one…

December 13, 2022 at 8:52 amIt’s so nice to see all 4 ele’s hanging out together. Maia is more interactive with the others. Wonder what changed for her to take these big social steps these past 6 months? Guille and Pocha perhaps?

December 13, 2022 at 9:17 amIt’s been a gradual process that’s been happening for over a year, as she’s eased back into the group.
