Facebook Live – A Few Moments With Lady

Just a quick check-in with Miss Lady Bug, since she didn’t appear in the live feed the other day. Volume up to hear the beautiful birds in the background as she lazily eats a watermelon.

Lady is in Yard 2, close to the barn after finishing her foot soaks and treatment this morning. Her back feet are good, but her front right is having an issue with the pad. This comes from her years before sanctuary, where there was no care or trimming and overgrown layers trapped feces and debris over the years. Because of this, and to take some pressure off of the pad, those front nails are left longer than you would trim if you were trimming simply for aesthetics. And while they don’t look as pretty as Maia’s, it aids significantly in her comfort and ability for that area to heal.
The wet spot on her face is from cleaning an old abscess she arrived with. It had remained untreated for years due to a misunderstanding that it was ‘normal’ drainage. This unfortunately means it will also flare up on and off for years as it heals. We clean and medicate it regularly, although there isn’t any frequent drainage. And she’s a total peach with all of her treatments.

Living there, it might be easy to forget… but it is paradise. Paradise. You have made heaven on earth.

Scott, I came here while you were working to get Bambi ready for the trip. I loved your rambles than, and I will always welcome them.

Would you consider filming one of the treatment sessions?

Lady is okay with being filmed sometimes, but is generally not comfortable if we don’t focus completely on her during her treatments.

Sometimes it’s hard to get a good gauge of how big these wonderful creatures are. How tall is Lady?

To be honest, we’ve never measured her height. She is tiny, as far as elephants go – definitely under eight feet.

A symphony of tweets and chirps. A snack of a juicy watermelon. Peace and tranquility, all’s right with the world. Also, the ramblings are appreciated. It’s so obvious that Scott is in awe of these incredible beings that it’s easy to get jumbled up. Bravo!
