EleFact Friday: Lashes on Guard

Happy EleFACT Friday! You may not think that something as small as eyelashes are much to talk about in regards to elephants, but they’re actually quite special. Not only do elephants hold the record for largest land animal, but they also take the title of longest eyelashes. Their lashes can grow up to 5 inches long and are not just for looks. Eyelashes of that length help protect the animals from dust, debris, or sand getting in the eyes. In addition to both the upper and lower eyelids, elephants have a third eyelid which moves vertically across the eye and also acts as protection when feeding, dusting, and bathing. Of the elephants here at GSE, Lady has the longest eyelashes.

That is quite an interesting picture. It gives her a bit of a human-like quality and I’m not sure I can explain it.

Wow, what gorgeous eyelashes is right I’m impressed and jealous too! I never knew they grew to that amazing length or that they have a third eyelid which makes perfect sense so thank you for that information which I will share with my grandsons this weekend while wearing my the Ramba Effect hoodie and share her amazing life story which they will love! I miss her so much Ramba was the first elephant that stole my heart I just happened to come across her incredible rescue story and I’ve been along for this wonderful incredible journey ever since. I’m truly fortunate to be part of GSE Brazil who makes us all feel like one big happy family sharing those touching moments allowing us to see those behind the scenes adventures these amazing gentle giants get to finally freely enjoy teaching us so many new things but the best ever is when the elephants finally get to the sanctuary the excitement is off the charts then Scott and Kat open up those trailer doors and we see that beautiful elephant taking that life changing first step onto sanctuary soil with tears of joy streaming down our faces we will cherish in our hearts forever. Thank you dear sweet Rambita you will always have a special place in my heart miss you so much girl ???

SWEET LIL LADY❤️?❤️ NOT ONLY DOES SHE HAVE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EYELASHES WHEN SHE ARRIVED AT SANCTUARY SHE HAD THE LONGEST TAIL AND MY GOD IT HAD ALL ITS HAIR STILL‼️?. I SAW NOT LONG AGO SHES LOST HALF THE HAIR BECAUSE OF ALL HER “BUSHWAHACKING TREES AND SHRUBS” SHE MAY HAVE LOST SOME! YES LADY IS ONLY GAL WHO HAS HAIR ON END TAIL?
