Quick update- sorry for the delayed post. Scott was going to try to do a live, but internet didn’t hold out (see Live below that came in after this post was written up!!). I ran down to take care of the girls here, thinking it was going to happen, and came up and there was nothing. Sorry, you’ll have to settle for a photo of Bambi’s relaxed sweet face and the update that Scott shared with me.
Bambi is doing well, she is continuing her trend of- melon was good yesterday, but they’re gross today. Yesterday apples were gross, but today they are fantastic. It’s something we’ve seen in elephants before. She is also cutely demanding of the amount of food you give her. If you don’t put enough in her trunk, she will continue to leave it out to you until the proper amount has filled her nose. This afternoon was a 3 apple requirement.
The loud truck noises on stops are a distraction for her, but otherwise, she remains settled. We are keeping an eye on her on the camera throughout the journey, and she seems good. Scott will try to do a live later on, but this is a pretty barren stretch of the trip. Thankfully, it’s one we know well, and are familiar with all of the best places to stop that offer Bambi an area away from the noise and in the shade.
You can learn more here, or follow her journey on Bambi’s map of dots. We know you love to count them.

September 25, 2020 at 5:10 pmI love the maps, not just for following along (which is great), but I am an atlas and reference book geek anyway. So I will look up and wonder about where everyone is. I know you can’t tell us direct info, for safety reasons. I am still curious, though, if you passed Iguazu Falls on Mara’s trip? I can’t imagine you didn’t come close to it then, said the reference book geek. I’m so glad to hear Bambi is holding up, and holding out for the right amount of food, LOLOL Fingers crossed for an arrival tomorrow, meaning fingers crossed for an easy trip.

September 25, 2020 at 6:17 pmI am not sure whether Bambi is facing forward or facing back looking at where she has come from.
Not long now before she is home. So much to look forward to.

September 26, 2020 at 7:55 amThank you EleComposer for your quick reply. You really make us feel part of the move. I know if I was travelling like Bambi, I would want to be facing forward too. With all this Covid and being self-isolated, being able to follow something like this is a Godsend. Love to you all who care for these wonderful creatures. I do believe it has made a a better person.

September 25, 2020 at 7:59 pmI’ve been following and supporting the case of Happy in captivity at Bronx Zoo who are refusing to move her to a sanctuary. The case was due today but I have no way of knowing the outcome yet.
Elephants require special care and seldom receive it. Looks like you need patience with Bambi but she will respond when she is ready. I wish you success with your dedication.

September 25, 2020 at 8:01 pmThe 3 apple requirement is just too funny! She must think “If you’re going to put me in this crate & take me for a ride, then these are my demands.”

You and your team along with Miss Bambi bring so much love and joy not only to myself but with the rest of the world who strongly believe that no animal should be removed from the wild for our enjoyment, and suffer any abuse from man.
