Bambi continues to do well this morning. We are starting to close the gate a bit and make noise with the straps to get her a little more used to things. She is attentive but is choosing to stay inside of the container despite the commotion.
For those who are new, this is Bambi, who will be coming to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil next week. The zoo received a little rain last night, the first time in four months, which adds another layer of distraction to acclimation, but Bambi is doing great. Maison continues to enjoy the extra attention and goodies. 😉
Visit her Rescue Page for more information, photos, videos, and her travel map (which will be updated once they get on the road).

September 20, 2020 at 11:57 amHow do you think Maison will go forward emotionally after Bambi leaves?
Do Asian and African elephants prefer not to live together and if so, how do they show it?
Thanks.

September 24, 2020 at 10:36 amHi Meredith. It’s impossible to know how Maison will adapt once Bambi is no longer there. There is ongoing dialogue about her also coming to sanctuary, but we will just have to wait to see how or if that works out. As for Asian and African elephants, while they have been known to occasionally get along in captivity, there are vast social, behavioral and communication differences between these species. For their recovery and comfort, and to allow them to live as close to a natural herd dynamic as possible, the two groups will be managed separately at sanctuary.

I just love the endless patience of Scott, all the information, all the thoughts, it is always so interesting and in so zen.
The elephants, the humans, and Lori’s cat Kitten, we all sense the Scott zen-vibe!

September 20, 2020 at 2:30 pmThis is a time of new beginnings for Bambi. I think on those still in waiting and hope their day will come soon. For now we must look forward with joy for the soon to be new member of the herd.
Hold on, Bambi, you are coming home.

September 20, 2020 at 2:46 pmBambi is doing very well with every inch improvement. She’s really adorable. When you’ve had a chained life everything must look scary. Very strong she survived this long and now she’s almost home and dry.??

September 20, 2020 at 4:27 pmIt is amazing to see how much progress bambi made in less than a day, how much more relaxed she moves for and backwards into the crate and I think she enjoys all the attention (and the treats, of course?)
Lovely and addictive vlog
