Cutie Rana Bug Is Doing Well

Rana

Cutie Rana Bug is doing well- her lovely self as usual. We had a veterinary ophthalmologist here and performed pinpoint cryosurgery on the papilloma on her eyelid. This method protects her eye since the instrument stops dispensing the liquid nitrogen if pressure is released. So if Rana moves, it shuts off.

True to her cooperative nature, she was great for everything. We are definitely seeing a positive response, but healing will be slow. She will most likely have it for months, but there is a possibility it won’t completely resolve. We will probably have to do another treatment in a few weeks, but we will wait and see.

Outside of once a day cleaning and topical treatment, her little growth certainly doesn’t slow her down. She has been journeying around the habitat, choosing where to go and how much time she spends with Maia and Guida. This week it has been a fair bit, including walking past dinner to go hang out with Guida instead. Each day is different and that’s part of the wonder of sanctuary.

Thank you for the update on Rana Bug! So glad she is doing well and being and being an adorable and sweet “patient” with much patience ? Does Rana Bug come to the barn area at some point every day so that you can provide her treatments and care that might be needed? Curious how that works – if the girls stop in for maybe a reward of some special treats, or just to visit you ❤️ Or both? Fascinated in learning and observing how you are able to have them close enough to receive their needed treatments. Thank you for the loving constant care you provide along with allowing them to live their best lives at Sanctuary! ❤️?❤️?❤️?❤️???? #SanctuarySoonGrandmaRambaXO

Generally, she will come by in the morning for treatment. She likes all of the extra food rewards. Some mornings she is out by the pond and doesn’t come by until the afternoon, so we adjust our schedule to hers. If she doesn’t come by at all, it’s only for a day usually, and that just means she doesn’t get treatment. It’s not something urgent, so if a day is skipped, it doesn’t impact things negatively.

Sweet little Rana, I wish you a speedy full recovery! I too live with various skin bumps, just like Sherry, by the sound of it, But having one on your eyelid, well, that requires action, indeed. Sounds like you fully agreed, Rana.

And to the people who look after Rana, I love your elephants, the way you keep us updated and everything you do so that we get to know them well. I ran into a video on Guida at some point in the past, and I’ve been hooked ever since. And I am not the only one!

Thanks so much for everything that you do.
