Cute Miss Rana discovered her mud wallow in the early morning hours. When we arrived at the barn this morning she had a lovely coating of orange mud from head to toe. We went out and checked the wallow we dug back up for her (just in case she didn’t wander far from the barn) and it had obviously been used.
After breakfast and treatment (we’ll talk about what we’re trying to do with Rana in another post) Maia went with Rana and checked out her wallow before all three girls wandered over to a big shady tree where two of the three grazed while Maia napped. This later turned into all three napping, butt to butt.
The girls continue to do great. There is so much to talk about- how they are doing, nuances of behavior, physical issues, but we don’t want the posts to turn into books. So we’ll try to keep them remotely reasonable and do a couple a day when we are able.
Still no power and no generator at the barn, so we apologize for not responding to comments or answering emails. As the girls get into a more ‘normal’ routine, this will shift. But for now we are a little MIA as we spend a lot of time observing the girls and the evolution of their interactions.
Thank you

December 24, 2018 at 12:32 pmShe is settling down wonderfully well. I wonder how much she was ever able to mix with other elephants in her life or was she so much alone like many other elephants.

December 24, 2018 at 1:16 pmRana must think “this is what paradise is all about”. Christmas is a difficult time of year for myself on a personal level but all this had made this years holiday feel joyful and blessed. You all can be so very proud and bursting with happiness of what you have done here.
A very merry Christmas to everyone!
