We have launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo to help raise funds to start building sanctuary.
Now that we have a beautiful property, and elephants waiting to arrive, we need to build a barn and fences to allow them to roam. For less than it would cost to fly one elephant to the US (which has its own big set of problems) we can build the facilities that will allow us to rescue 4-6 elephants. The number we are able to rescue will depend on gender, species (Asian or African) and how well they get along. Part of sanctuary is feeling safe, and that includes with the other elephants they share their space with.
Our goal is to raise the remaining $300,000 needed to complete Phase I of development. But any funds raised, even if we do not meet that goal, will go towards building (it is not an ‘all or nothing’ campaign.) We have had an amazingly generous anonymous donor who has agreed to match donations, dollar for dollar, totaling up to $10,000. $10,000 for 10 days runs until October 26th. So far, we are half way to the $10,000 goal. If everyone chips in just a bit, we will easily be able to raise the full match and not let a penny of it go to waste.
If you fully match the $10,000, the total raised so far will be enough to build the first Elephant Care Center. This development will allow us to show that Elephant Sanctuary Brazil is real and it is happening. We have been dealing with corporations who are supportive, but are sitting back and waiting for a little more. Having the Elephant Care Center may just be what they are looking for.
You can help us build this much needed sanctuary and enable us to rescue elephants like Ramba, Maia, Guida and others who are waiting for someone to change their lives. Please visit our campaign, watch the wonderful video that a supporter put together for us, and if you are touched by it, please give a little and change a life forever.

October 26, 2015 at 11:35 pmThanks Jean. I think we are going to cry when the first steel truck pulls up. Although sometimes it feels like the elephants have been waiting forever, the struggles will all be a distant memory as soon as an elephant pulls into the property and walks off of the trailer.
