Bambi Walks Away From Mara

Bambi under a treeRecently at breakfast, Mara, Rana, Bambi, and Guillermina were in the same general area, while Maia was getting her meal on the other side of the yard. After the group of four had finished, it was time for medical treatments on the elephants who regularly need them. Scott was giving Bambi her eye drops and Mara walked over. This isn’t typical; usually it’s Guille who comes over, trying to get some extra treats.

While Mara was approaching, she was squeaking and making all of her delightful noises, but Bambi didn’t seem charmed by them. Mara’s chattiness usually lights up Bambi’s day, but Bambi ended up walking away from Mara, which is unusual.

Perhaps Bambi left because she feels as though Maia and Guille are closer to her these days and she’s comfortable expanding her friend group. As you know, in the sanctuary world, things are always growing, changing, and evolving. While Guillermina can be a lot to handle at times, she can also be really charming. And while Maia and Bambi didn’t get off on the right foot at first, they have similar temperaments and do well together now. This may be the beginning of a shift in who Bambi spends more time with on a more permanent basis. It could also have been that Bambi wasn’t in the mood for company that day. There’s no way to know, but it was an interesting development in the group’s dynamics, particularly surrounding Bambi.

After watching Mara yank Bambi around emotionally since the beginning, I’ve just got to put this out there. Could Bambi’s new reactions towards Mara possibly be an “awakening”, similar to a human’s realization that some popular person, with whom we desperately want to be friends, thinks they have the superior edge over us – and we finally just decide, “I’ve had enough…”? I know I’ve been told that we can’t superimpose human feelings onto the elephants, but the more I read, the more it’s obvious that they are extremely sophisticated and emotional animals. Good for Bambi for finding her own sense of self and respect! Smile.

It’s absolutely possible. Relationships are complicated and sometimes we need to take breaks from one another. We’ll be watching how things progress.

I think Marcia has a very good observational point…well, readers point.

I also wonder when Bambi was struggling to get up from the mud the other day, if Mara witnessed Bambi’s struggle. Guille was there to watch over Bambi. Bambi knows a good friend when she senses one! All in all, very interesting…

Terry, yes, your point about Guille is also very spot on. And Sara. we appreciate all that you write. How great it is to have made our own “friends” out here in cyberspace around the world as we watch you all care for the “girls”.

Oh dear. I do think BAMBI IS A BIT MIFFED WITH MARA. Bambi was such a security guard over Mara. She took over from Rana basically wanted to be sole nurse security to Mara. Now time will tell I’d they Forgive each other for Bambi not getting love and help she wanted recently. I pray all works out for the LADIES!😍🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘💝
