When Lady spends time in the male Asian yard, we often open up Yard 5 (where Lady frequents) to the rest of the girls. One recent morning “The Powerpuff Girls” were in Yard 4; Bambi was near the pond eating and Rana and Mara were having checkups done. Guillermina and Maia were in Yard 5 grazing.
All of a sudden there was a loud trumpet from Guillermina. Bambi immediately spun around, her ears wide. Caregiver Tina headed toward Guille on the 4-wheeler, but suddenly the trumpeting stopped. Bambi stayed put in the same position, looking in Guille’s direction. After a few moments, she turned back to her food as though nothing had happened. Perhaps Guillermina let her know that nothing was wrong, so Bambi knew things were fine. Regardless, it was interesting to see her very natural response and seeming concern for an elephant she continues to form a deeper bond with.
