Bambi Gets Silly in the Pond

Though it’s the rainy season, the rain has been coming and going off and on for a few weeks now; we have had a few unexpected mini dry spells, but they never last too long. This week it rained quite hard, although not for a long time. But there was thunder and lightning and Mother Nature put on a good show.

After breakfast, all of the elephants were at the pond in Yard 4 with Maia being the only elephant actually in the water. Mara and Rana were standing to the side, and Bambi and Guillermina were nearer to the rim. Eventually, Bambi scooted over to the edge and began scratching her bottom in the mud with her feet dangling in the water. She and Guille were very playful all afternoon. When the caregivers passed by the pond a few hours later, the five girls were still there, enjoying the fresh mud.

P.S.: Today’s podcast wraps up Ramba’s story, as we take you through all of her sanctuary firsts. Ramba undoubtedly made the most of her time at sanctuary. Listen on our website or on your favorite podcast platform. And read more about Ramba on her memorial page.

Ramba was my “first” elephant and her story connected me permanently to your sanctusry. Now, over four years later I still sit snuffling with tears in my eyes.

Oh Bambi sweetie. You are loved and we are so happy you’re happy now! I remember well your previous home. The contrast is beautifully in your favor and our favor seeing you now. Love you, sweetie!
