In the mornings, when the moment presents itself to do footwork or training, Bambi and Guillermina will often have sessions one after the other. Sometimes they will stay near each other and other times, they’re off doing their own thing. On a recent morning, Guille was having some foot work done and was being lovely throughout. At one point, Bambi walked over and also seemed to want her own turn. Guille began making her little squeaking noises to show her interest in Bambi. As Guille continued to present her foot to the caregivers, Bambi started touching Guille’s tail. It was a very lighthearted moment and very indicative of the kind of relationship the two elephants are building.
A few minutes later, it was Bambi’s turn and Guille stepped over to see what was going on. She was very respectful of Bambi’s training, but also appeared to want more attention in her own way. Both elephants were likely curious to see if they could get attention, treats, or affection – all while staying close to their friend and keeping an eye on things. Neither girl was bothered by the presence of the other. They are building a respectful relationship and both elephants seem to be getting great things from being around each other.
