Baby Steps Forward

Maia

For those who are missing Maia, a sleepy breakfast closeup.

Maia is doing well, and we know people worry about her being the odd man out, but we all process things at our own speed, and sometimes, that is what is needed to move on, learn our life lessons, and grow.

At times it does seem like Maia would want to be more of a part of what R&R have right now, but they would never push her away if she decided to join them. Her distance is mostly on her own terms. We still feel sad at times because we know the loss of Guida is part of what holds her back. At the same time, we also know it’s positive for her to see two other elephants have a healthy relationship with each other and still be open to her.

She may not be quite there yet, but we will have other elephants soon, and one of them may open back up that little piece of her heart she is keeping closed off. In the meanwhile, she is taking baby steps forward. Her relationship with Rana has improved, and we see tender moments with Ramba. She’ll get there, but only when she’s ready, and that’s ok. The other girls will be there when the time comes.

Yes I often think of Maia’s loss of Guida, and how that may be affecting her. She was so sociable when Guida was there. Thank you for this

Take your time Maia. Grief has many sharp corners to it, but with time those corners become less acute. They will not disappear [memories never do] but you will become used to them. [Humans, take heed; it’s the same for us]. More company is coming!
