Until now, Baby has been spending time wandering the yards and poking around the pond, mostly keeping to the outskirts of the water and not getting in for a soak. Recently, we’ve seen her looking muddy on her feet and her face, so we know she’s been playing there and splashing herself–we just haven’t seen her submerge.
We can now officially say without a doubt that Baby has taken time to relax and soak in the pond. In this video, she even takes a seat in the mud before she reclines further. The pond is not fully filled at the moment. The care team added a new type of clay that will hopefully allow the space to retain a good amount of water, rather than soaking up the moisture into the ground. Now that we know Baby is interested in getting in, we’ll be filling it more.
Baby seems relaxed in the moment, as the birds sing and the palms sway gently in the wind. It’s a substantial development for Baby, though it might seem small to some. If we continue to see a very muddy Baby, we’ll know that she’s found a new favorite spot.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

August 5, 2026 at 4:33 pmWhat a beautiful sight to behold and to hear! I hope Baby has indeed found another favorite spot. It must have taken quite a bit of courage to step into the water not knowing how deep it was or how steady she might be, she is so brave and love seeing her continue to explore and try new things!!! Thank you as always for sharing these amazing moments! Love and hugs ❤️🐘❤️
