Baby Loves the Bath

This morning we want to share with you a charming moment with Baby, as she got a bath after breakfast. She got a good wash–and you can see that she also took the time to be silly and playful. The water must have felt good, because Baby relaxed into the spray and also hosed herself off with her trunk. Once things got good and squishy, she rolled around a bit, even smushing her head into the ground in seeming excitement.

Sometimes elephants come to sanctuary with layers of dead skin on their bodies. Mara had a significant problem and Bambi’s skin was so severe that it took about a year to clear up. Baby’s circumstances are not as serious, but she will still need lots of baths, some scrubbing, and plenty of organic exfoliation. The natural world provides so many elements that seem simple or insignificant, but that make a huge difference in an elephant’s life. In Baby’s case, a simple pile of dirt or a tree to rub against will provide as much or more help than her human caregivers can.

    Yes, most of them do in the early days when they’re sloughing off dead skin. It must feel good.

Oh my goodness! Baby girl surely enjoyed her bath! A much needed bath that she probably didn’t get much while she was in captivity. Now she has humans and nature to provide her with lots of baths, mud wraps, scrubbings, scratches…🥰
