We’ve experienced quite a few torrential downpours the past few nights – and this is great! It’s the rainy season, so rain is beautiful and essential.
Rainy nights make for lazy days. All the elephants are very active and playful all night when it rains, so, in the morning, we have sleepy, sleepy elephants. They spend the day napping, and then it rains again at night, so they party all night once more.
In the mornings, Rana is so caked in mud that even her eyelashes are muddy. When we find them for breakfast, everyone is taking ten seconds naps before taking a few steps. Rana acts as if her trunk is too heavy to hold up (it isn’t, as is proven once she has food). Maia has to nap after every three steps or so. Lady is always a little slow, but she has been nice and mellow and relaxed.
This sluggishness is entirely normal for the mornings after rainy nights, and there is no need for concern… it’s just what happens when they stay up all night having fun, so, after a few rainy nights in a row, we have adorable elephant zombies every morning. It’s been beautiful, but slow.
Photo is of a very muddy Rana, be sure to zoom in for the full experience!
