In this video, Bambi and Mara are calmly grazing and also eating food that we’ve placed around the habitat for them to find. It’s morning and they’ve just gotten a bug spray treatment – and you can hear the birds singing in the distance. Eventually, Rana walks out from the brush to join them.
Because the bugs are prevalent this time of year (as we’ve mentioned), Mara decides to give herself a little extra protection from bites by dusting herself. You can see how her trunk forms a circle in the dirt as she uses her nose to pick it up and toss it on herself.
These moments represent the beauty of sanctuary, the simple and uneventful mornings and afternoons that we hope for each day. One of the best things we can offer the elephants is an environment where they can do what they want – even if what they want to do is just be. These brief few minutes are a window into the beauty of sanctuary life – the choice to be calm and in the moment, if that’s what they choose to do. It’s a pleasure for us to witness.

December 22, 2022 at 8:17 pmAgree with Alejandra Enquin. I know you’re waiting for paper work, so not saying anything against you there. I am desperately worried about Tamy, just needed to share =(.
His sudden loss of his “company” now the possibility that he may have TB, and the lack of movement by Ecoparque Mendoza in training him. It was years ago now that we fundraised for Tamy’s Tomorrows, I remember because dear Mary Taylor was still with us and working her but off for him. Ho hum. Thank you for the video.

December 23, 2022 at 9:57 amWe know it’s a frustrating situation. We also hope that things with the other elephants will happen sooner rather than later. Tamy is in our thoughts often.
