Next month we will welcome a staff member visiting from the US, which is rare, and also means that we have the opportunity for someone to bring supplies for the animals that are only available in the United States. In North America, people have a luxury that we don’t have in Brazil, which is access to any number of products at any time, delivered to their homes. At the sanctuary, we can get some much-needed items locally, though the quality may not always be as high as many things you can purchase in the US. There are specific things that we don’t have the opportunity to obtain at all. This is where you can come in and make a direct impact.
Quality is essential for the supplements and medicines we use on the elephants, and we are very particular about the different products used on Lady’s feet. Because elephants are so adept at using their trunks (meaning they can touch pastes or medicines on their skin, or even stick them in their mouths), we have to be aware of not only the integrity of the products we use on them, but know that things are also safe for an elephant to ingest, should they decide to eat them. When in the US, we can obtain items we trust that have name recognition, where in Brazil we cannot source them at all, or we must use items that are comparable and could potentially be of a lower quality. We can purchase supplements and general items here, and have medicines, sprays, and supplements compounded at the pharmacy (particularly for Lady, who needs the most specific care), but there is no access to many things beneficial for the elephants – and all of the other animals here at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil.
We have created two wishlists: one on Amazon and another on Chewy that list items needed for Lady specifically, all of the elephants in general, plus a few things we use for the dogs, the goats, and for Alma. The Chewy list isn’t just for the smaller residents; it also has items like elephant supplements, and Assisi Loops, which we want to start using on Lady’s feet, and already use on wildlife, Alma, and others.
So for those of you who love shopping – enjoy! Having visitors means presents for everyone. If you would like to purchase items for the animals, they must be shipped to our US location in time to arrive by Thursday, May 12th.
Thank you for always making sure that all of the animals here at the sanctuary are well cared for. It makes a world of difference.

April 20, 2022 at 2:25 pmIn the Amazon app,. how do I find your wishlist? I looked under Pets and Charities but did not find anything. I looked under International and it only showed how much you would get if I purchased. Where is the wishlist? I would like to buy lots of supplies for your girls.

April 20, 2022 at 3:10 pmWill do. I will not use Amazon, so Chewy it is. Also, do you need $$ for paying for extra baggage. If you fly business you can bring 70 pounds on each of three suitcases.
Sara says
April 20, 2022 at 3:18 pmThank you so much. You’re very generous. If anyone would like to donate toward baggage fees, they can send a few dollars our way via the main donation page. But that’s absolutely above and beyond!
