A little more Bambi as she continues to explore the stall and smell all of the smells. Closeup of Bambi starts at 1:45.
Along with tasting, eating, and scratching on all of the greens, Bambi dusted a lot, then rubbing her body to begin exfoliating years of dead skin build-up. The stall she is in is where we usually do Lady’s foot treatment in the afternoon. We watched Bambi smelling the specific bars where Lady puts her feet up and rumbling. She clearly knows there are other elephants here.

September 26, 2020 at 7:09 pmI haven’t even watched the video yet. I am just home from my family weekend functions, and I am so happy to see Bambi in what I know to be familiar and friendly territory. She looks great in the little bit I CAN SEE, and I am now off to catch up everything. I just wanted to say: It’s great to see her there at Sanctuary. Great job everyone. Now, I get to catch up on all the fun.

September 27, 2020 at 4:32 amThe nice thing about how things went in the few days before the trip is that Bambi now knows that she is currently undergoing a similar step and she’ll be really curious about what will happen next. “Fearful” and “insecure”? Ha. Not so much after all!
(As an adult who became bullied by strangers around me to my utter bafflement after I moved from Amsterdam to England, I probably kinda know how that goes.)

September 27, 2020 at 4:43 amI suddenly noticed something that may be related to her left eye and may contain a clue. We – the public – only get to see snippets of her behavior so it is hard to tell. But, does she have a tendency to stay on the right side of any enclosures and/or keep borders/fences close to her right side? If so, that could also have something to do with her issues with Maison as she would have ended up walking toward the fence along Maison’s yard a lot?
Kat Blais says
October 1, 2020 at 5:01 pmShe generally interacted with Maison head-on and was very aware of where she was. In the altercation between the two, Bambi was actually the one who started it, but she picked a fight with someone much bigger and stronger than her.
