Sandro Enjoys the Stars

Good morning everyone! Sandro is doing well and spent his first night sleeping outside in probably about 50 years. The barn is open so he can go in whenever he wants, but he chose nature. Michele came down at 10 pm for his feed, and that’s where he was. Cameras don’t show him in the barn during the night. And for those who tend towards worry, there are multiple water troughs throughout the yards, but Scott walked him to the nearest one for a drink and bath before breakfast. He says essentially the same thing in both English and Portuguese.
Enjoy your morning dose of Sandro.

Hey, Kat, thanks for the update and I’m so excited about EVERYTHING and the new girlie duo! Sandro still reminds me of Ned, I can’t help it, and I am beyond thrilled that he’s such a good guy 😁

It’s wonderful to see Sandro adapting so well and embracing his new life with such courage! Is there any concern that he will overdo? I know he moves very slowly and is likely protecting himself well … still, he does look fragile at times. So much exercise after so long a more sedentary life!

he doesn’t seem to be overdoing it, he takes things at a very nice pace. he also isn’t showing any signs of being extra tired or exhausted at this point, but we are keeping a close eye on him. most elephants are good at paying attention to their bodies.

What a truly wonderful thing for dear Sandro πŸ˜πŸ’šπŸŒ³ I only wish it hadn’t taken over five decades for him to finally come home. That being said, I couldn’t be happier for him! Thank You GSE πŸ’šπŸ©΅

Thanks for your response, Kat. I know you guys are the absolute best at caring for our dear elephants, so no questions about that … it’s just good to hear that you’re not seeing any signs of extra fatigue. Gotta trust our boy! It’s so exciting to watch him be his elephant self.

I knew when I saw him at the Zoo he was fearless and would have no issues when he came to GSE Brazil. He’s a leader elephant and will do really well especially with the care he gets there

He seems to be smiling. I think he is so hay to be where he is and feels happy.

I love that it took 1/2 hr to find him on his very first night out. It is surprising just how calm and confident he is! We are so used to the girls who are squeakers, rumblers, trumpeters, and callers whereas Sandro is calm and quiet. But you can still very clearly see his enjoyment and his love for exploring. We need a big, huge fundraiser to expand the male habitat. This space is so awesome but imagine finding him in something even larger and imagine how much he will have. Sandro you are so amazing!!!
